Hamid Shahriari said this while addressing an Islamic Unity Conference organized by Iranian Culture Center in eastern city of Lahore on Saturday.
Prominent figures from Pakistani religious groups and parties attended the conference.
Molavi Nazir Ahmad Salami, Member of Iranian Assembly of Experts, Morteza Forati, Acting Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lahore and Jafar Ronas, Director of Iranian Culture Center was also present on the occasion.
Representatives of Islamic sects, heads of Shiite and Sunni schools and scientific centers, cultural figures, university professors and religious activists of Pakistan praised the efforts of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought to strengthen solidarity between Islamic sects.
Molavi Nazir Ahmad Salami in his speech said Takfir and extremist acts are the main challenges of the Islamic world and stressed scholars and influential figures of the Islamic world must confront the phenomenon of Takfir and must not allow the enemies to take advantage of any chaos among Muslim nations.
Shahriari as the main speaker of the program said the unity of Shiites and Sunnis is the basic strategy to defeat anti-Islamic plans.
He emphasized the holy system of the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great importance to the project of approximation and considers the gathering of Muslims beyond the religious beliefs as the best factor to achieve common goals.
He said today, we see the great achievement of the project of unity and solidarity between Islamic sects in the strong anti-Zionist front, where Shiites and Sunnis have prevented the evil movements and plans of the illegitimate Zionist regime.
Shiite and Sunni scholars present at the conference called for the unity of the Islamic world to undermine the efforts of Muslim unity and solidarity.
Participants in the Islamic Unity Conference chanted Takbir and slogans for unity and long live friendship between Iran and Pakistan.
